Ensemble Spectrum was founded ten years ago as part of Matej Sloboda’s efforts to improve the possibilities of interpreting contemporary music. The group of young musicians reaches for more and more complex goals after already having playe many concerts. They are currently the most prominent and active Slovak ensemble specializing in chamber music of the 20th and 21st centuries. Initial student desires turned into a passion and even a life’s mission to create unique and simultaneously serious dramaturgies. During the ten years of its activity so far, the ensemble has studied more than one hundred and thirty different compositions of domestic and foreign contemporary works. A new challenge for the ensemble is the presentation of the composition Schnee by the Danish author Hans Abrahamsen. The musical flake grows out of the re-composition of Bach’s canons. Abrahamsen’s sound world of “white polyphony” seems to become snow itself. The canons sound in pairs, while the author compares their two different sound forms to two color-different versions of the same painting.
