What was happening in music at the beginning of the 20th century? A diversity of styles, a complex journey in search of one’s own handwriting, breaking free from conventional harmonic progressions… This concert will offer a sort of excursion into the possible forms of music’s direction. The Slavic Concerto for piano by the Ukrainian Boris Lyatoshynsky combines virtuoso solo passages with a sonorous, film-music-like sound of the orchestra. Prominent Ukrainian pianist Antonii Barishevski must interpret the wide emotional charge. The chromatically saturated variations by Witold Lutosławski will contrast with the still harmonically graspable work of Arnold Schoenberg, which was originally written for an a capella choir. The concert will conclude with the Psalm Symphony, a representative and exceptionally suggestive work by Igor Stravinsky, who turned to sacred themes and humility several times towards the end of his life.
