George Gershwin, who went down in history primarily with his original connection of classical music to jazz, called the first orchestral performance of his Piano Concerto in F major his “greatest musical thrill”. The symphonic scene about an American in Paris is the genius musician’s reaction to his stay in the metropolis above the Seine, where he received huge tributes from Ravel and Nadja Boulanger. In 1928, the French composer Maurice Ravel embarked on a four-month concert tour of the USA. As a compositional result of his American stay, there was also the playful but demanding for the performer Piano Concerto in G major, which ensured lasting fame for the composer. The concert will conclude with Ravel’s globally renowned Bolero. It originated as ballet music with a Spanish character for the dancer Ida Rubinstein. The piano part will be performed by the well-known to the Bratislava audience, Alexei Volodin, who toured Austria in 2022 with the orchestra and chief conductor Daniel Raiskin.
